Meet the farmer
As a child, most of my time was spent outdoors - adventuring through the woods behind our home or playing as my mother tended her vegetable and flower garden. Now, as an adult, I still feel most at peace when I am outdoors. The need to be in the fresh air and my passion for growing led me to find the occupation that suits me best: farming. To me, there is very little that is as rewarding as aiding a seed (a speck of seemingly nothing) grow into something that nurtures wildlife, comforts people when they are sad, and spreads joy during happy occasions.
Walking through our fields each day fills me with such excitement, waiting to see what gift each bud has to offer. The real pleasure comes from sharing that gift with others. To see someone smile as they receive flowers I have grown is to know that I have helped to spread happiness, even if just for a fleeting moment. The power of flowers is immense!
I delight in flower arranging and love that it allows me to exercise my creativity while constantly learning. With a background in fine art, I aim for my work to reflect a sense of balance and movement, and give great consideration to the use of color and texture. I like each of my bouquets to exhibit the bounty of the current season, and to convey the inherent beauty of nature.
While I farm mainly on my own, most of it would be impossible without the help of my part-time farm hand, mechanic, and full-time husband, Brian. His never ending support is truly the fuel that keeps this farm going.

The farm and our philosophy
Blue Hill Farm is located in China Township, Michigan, about an hour north of Detroit. Established in 2014, we grow a wide variety of mostly annuals to share with our clients. We are ever expanding and improving. Along with our focus crop of flowers, we grow our own vegetables and care for chickens, ducks, and honeybees.
Since our inception in 2014, it has been of the utmost importance to us to farm using organic practices, and to raise our crops without the use of pesticides, herbicides or synthetic fertilizers. By reusing our materials and making our own compost, we are able to operate with producing very little waste. The farm is extremely bio-diverse and attracts and provides for many insects, bees and birds. We believe it is our responsibility to act as stewards of the land, and to leave it in optimal condition for future generations.
flowers
We love working with what nature provides and emphasize the seasonality and ephemeral quality of flowers. Spring graces us with tulips and billowy peonies. Summer brings cheery zinnias and black eyed susans. With fall comes mums and the much beloved dahlia. Even winter is rich with lush evergreens, berries, and dried flowers of many kinds. We find great excitement in experimentation, and love growing new varieties as a way to improve our operation and the selection available to our clients. Our fields are abundant with many unique types of flowers, foliage, vines and herbs.
